He was born on 17th May 1948 in Gradina, Veliko Tarnovo District. He has been a stundent in Yanaki Manassiev`s painting class and graduated from the Fine Arts Department at Veliko Tarnovo University in 1973. Since 1973 the artist has participated in all regional and nacional exhibitions. In 1985 at the General Art Exhibition \"Retrospect through the Centuries\", held in Veliko Tarnovo, he was given the major contribution award. Velio Mitev has exhibited his pictures at twelve one-man shows, two of them in Sofia: 1983 at the Nacional House of Culture, 1998 at Shipka Exhibition Hall. He works in the fields of painting,graphic and plastic art, cartoons and illustrations. His pictures are in private collections in Germany, Belgium, Spain, Russia, Ukraine, Austria and in number of galleries in Bulgaria. At present he is a pictorial art teacher at \"Emilian Stanev\" High School, Veliko Tarnovo.
